What does error message "You do not have the required proficiency for that item." mean and how can I solve and fix it.

This error message means the item is not the right armor type for your character, and you're probably playing a class that can't equip that gear.
Cloth armor = Mage, Priest, or Warlock
Leather armor = Demon Hunter, Rogue, Druid, or Monk
Mail armor = Hunter or Shaman
Plate armor = Warrior, Death Knight, or Paladin
